ON THE BOARDS
This house in Amagansett affords the Owner an expanse of East to West space beneath its heavy, singular gable roof. The intent with this Work is to expand the space of the first floor to reach towards the yard at the rear of the house in a way that brings the Owner to the sunlight at the South. The Kitchen opens the corner of the volume to the Northeast and breaks the formality of the roof above. Both moves play on the formality of the gabled roof.
At the Southeast corner of the property is a pergola, at once dug into the ground while simultaneously reaching up to provide a sun shelter.
